Working together as a community to achieve a common goal is a key part of Helldivers 2, as thousands of players come together to take down the Automatons and Terminids in the name of democracy. While it doesn’t always work, as it can be incredibly difficult to encourage players to switch which enemy they fight, the community largely succeeds in its task. Unfortunately, players have failed one task with the current Major Order, but this is partly due to the fact that it was never communicated to the players that it needed to be completed.

U/brttruman took to Reddit to explain the reason why the Helldivers 2 community failed to defend Vernen Wells from the Automatons, causing the community to lose its Liberation Boost.

“The mission types available for the Defense Campaign are simply not that fun, or are impossible to complete, causing people to constantly bounce around and not complete the full set of missions.

  • The 15-minute staff pick-up variant is completely broken, with the only viable strategy being to have three people bait the drops while one person presses the button. Otherwise it is guaranteed destruction. Bugs are a little different on this mission and it’s not so much of a brick wall in the progression of the mission set.
  • For some reason, the Data Upload mission is much more common in defense campaigns, which many players avoid as it requires you to cover large portions of the map and rely on your secondary weapon the whole way.
  • Bots have a specific problem for the Evacuate High-Value Asset Missions (defending while the missiles are going off) in that they can get Drops on the helipad, or drop Factory Striders just on the other side of it and shoot the generators.

These issues with the missions either make it virtually impossible to complete the entire set, as almost all of them include the 15-Minute Retrieval variant, or simply not that fun to play as you have to cover the entire width of the map using from a secondary (or having to stop to fight frequently) or poor spawn design. This causes players to bounce around and never really complete the set, which doesn’t help the progression of the defense.”

I have to admit that completing all three of these mission variants seems like a chore, as I hate the Data Upload mission for the reasons the Reddit user mentioned, so I rarely complete the entire set, which doesn’t seem to add up. contribute to progress. But I also didn’t know that successfully defending it would grant a liberation boost, and it seems a lot of other players didn’t either.

Other Helldivers 2 players shared their thoughts, with U/Jamesewelch responding to the post by saying: “Also, no one knew how important it is to preserve that planet because there is nothing visible on the map of the galaxy that indicates it is important.” U/HeifetzJunkie also made a good point that these events and mechanics should be clearly communicated to players, saying: “They’ve added a game mechanic that we deserve to know about easily, without having to go through unofficial posts and discussions like this digging.”

This is one thing Arrowhead Game Studios needs to improve on. I spend most of my day on Helldivers 2 but didn’t even know about this because it’s not mentioned by the developers and it’s just something that players figure out and share, which means you have to trust me to post about it on Reddit about encounter.

Despite the loss of Vernen Wells, it looks like the current Major Order is up for grabs, but that doesn’t mean we should rest on our laurels as we wipe out 3.1 billion enemies from the galaxy.
