Mammals chromosomes have a huge impact on whether an individual develops as a male or female – but a new study reveals that the attractiveness of these sex chromosomes can be nullified by small molecules called microRNAs.

The study, published May 7 in the journal Nature communicationshowed that deleting the genes behind specific microRNAs could turn male mice into females in the womb, causing a complete sex reversal.
